New CBSE system helps govt schools

The change in the Central Board of Secondary Education examination pattern for Class X has not only resulted in a better performance in the city’s private schools but also in the government ones.

The change in the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) examination pattern for Class X has not only resulted in a better performance in the city’s private schools but also in the government ones. This is evident from figures that reveal a whopping increase of 53 per cent in the overall pass percentage of CBSE Class X results of government non-model schools and an 12 per cent rise in model schools as compared to the previous year.
There has also been a remarkable improvement in the 80 government high and senior secondary schools. An average of 99.3 per cent of students from model and non model schools have passed this year as against 66.55 per cent in 2010. This results in an improvement of 32.75 per cent.
Commenting on the improved performances of government schools and attributing it to the reforms brought in by the CBSE Board, the Director Public Instructions (schools) Sandeep Hans said: “Academically speaking, there was not much change in the education system at the government schools. It has been going on with an almost similar pattern as compared to the previous year. Thus, the better results of Class X can be certainly credited to the Board and changes brought in by it.”
Hoping that this sends a positive signal to students seeking admission for Class XI,Hans said with better performance of government schools, the department was hoping to obtain a similar response for admissions as received by the city’s private schools.
Similar views were shared by the government school principals. “Certainly the results have been better this year. This should help in changing the general perception among people that the private schools can perform better than the government schools,” said the principal of Government Model Senior Secondary School,Sector 16.
